The ChangeName process

As you can imagine, depending upon whose name you want to change, and why, can result in some awkward questions needing to be asked before your name change by Deed Poll can proceed. We have tried to keep our process as simple as possible for you to follow so that, at most, you will only have to complete seven simple steps to complete the change name process — and it is all online!

By entering your chosen details on each page and the hitting the "continue" button you will be able to pass through the site quickly and easily. Full help facilities are available on each screen to prompt you with some suggestions if you get stuck along the way.

Assuming that you have decided on the name(s) that you wish to change, then the steps are as follows:

  1. Enter the details about yourself, as requested on the first page. Type in your full name in the boxes provided.
  2. Select who the Deed Poll is for - yourself or a child. Don't worry if you alter your mind half way through, you can always change your selection later on - for example, you might wish to add other adults and children to your request. Then check and confirm the changes that you want to make.
  3. Enter the current name(s) of the person for whom you are changing a name (even if it is for yourself).
  4. Enter the new name of the person that you mentioned in Step 3 above.
  5. Confirm the changes that you have made are correct - if they are not, you should select the button that allows you to make changes to the details you have entered so far.
  6. You will probably want to send out a batch of letters to a number of organisations and government departments to tell them about you change of name. Let us know if you would like us to provide this service as we can print these letters for you, for a small payment, to save you the time and effort.
  7. Confirm that the details you have entered are complete and correct. If not, you may return to previous pages to correct missing or incorrect details
  8. Select your method of payment. Paying online is safe and simple by virtue of our Worldpay Secure Server. Just enter your credit/debit card details as shown and the confirmation screen will appear. Once you have checked that everything is OK, hit the "Pay Now By WorldPay" button and your order will be processed. Of course, if you prefer, you are welcome to pay by cheque or Postal Order by sending your remittance to the address below.

Once you have completed the online process, and your details have been confirmed, we will then send you your Deed Poll document and also a checklist of "what to do next". Normally, this should be with you in about a week but, should you need to have the document urgently then, for a small extra charge, we could arrange for it to be delivered to you the next day.

Upon receiving the Deed Poll document you will need to sign and date the Deed Poll in the presence of a witness. The witness can be any individual (who is not related to you), but they must be over eighteen yeers of age. The witness will also be required to sign and date the the Deed Poll document and supply their address.
